Mayor of London called for inquiry
Into the costs of converting the OS into a football stadium - apparently more than expected.

I can't say it's a football stadium as much as I am enjoying it.

When does Upton Park officially get torn down?

Any chance we can go back? PLEASE.

Even the slightest bit of hope?

That was a joke, but it would be typical West Ham if we gave up our home to have this one taken away and end up playing in some park.

Reckon when the Davids sell to "middle east investors", as surely their plan has been all along, they will buy the stadium. Govt are probably holding out for this as well.

Legacy Development chairman David Edmonds resigns, its also time for Karren Brady to do the same.

Re: Mayor of London called for inquiry
I've seen a lot of people talking about hypothetically knocking the stadium down and putting up a new purpose-built one in its place.

But my question is, if the owners remained the same, would you actually trust the current lot to build a new stadium and manage it in a way that was any better?

For me I just can't see it. A lot of the current issues are at least as much due to management rather than bricks and mortar. What do we think would actually change just because it was a 'proper football stadium' in terms of design? Brady would still want her day trippers, they would still do everything on the cheap, and so on.

I suspect we WILL get to a stage sooner rather than later where the government will be open to a deal to GIVE us the stadium.

Perhaps a new owner would be open to building a new football stadium on a free site at Stratford if the continued development of the area is guaranteed.
London could have a stadium building led economic recovery.

Re: Mayor of London called for inquiry
I've no doubt in West Ham did own it as originally planned, someone as money and marketing focused as Brady would have the stadium generating a lot of money through other events other than football, sort out naming rights and make it successful.

An organisation which is run under the constraints of the public purse has no hope with their cost cutting and their bargaining position is too weak.

I've been saying for years that after the 2017 Athletics event the government will want to rid themselves of this financial black hole.

Re: Mayor of London called for inquiry
I am intrigue at how we could actually adapt the current stadium, assuming we did own it

That roof which I thought was the largest of it's type would need further extension to cover the new front seats and what of the rake? How can that be steepened structually within that already huge building?

Best job is to do what Levy wanted, rip it down and start again but I dont see that happening anytime soon.

Re: Mayor of London called for inquiry
On the news the headline was asking if the stadium was 'viable', which is an interesting phrase.

If they decide it isn't, do we get it for free but then have to pay all the costs of running the place? Could we even knock the cunt down and build a new one?

Re: Mayor of London called for inquiry
The stadium will somehow eventually be owned by us. Once it is maybe we'll get new owners who will stump up the £s to turn it into an actual football stadium.

Yep, they will leave that stadium hat costs them 2.5 mil a year and spend a few hundred mil to build a smaller stadium just next door to it. Fucks sake.
